5-1 Divisibility Rules

 

Students should be able to:

State and List the divisibility rules for 2,3,4,5,6,9, and 10.

Evaluate what a number is divisible by, by using the divisibility rules.

 

Divisibility Rules:

 

            A number is divisible by:

 

2        If the number in the ones digit is 0,2,4,6, or 8. (# ends with 0,2,4,6, or 8)

5        If the number in the ones digit is 0 or 5 (# ends with 0 or 5)

10    If the number in the ones digit is 0. (# ends with a 0)

 

3        If the sum of the digits are divisible by 3, then the number is divisible by 3.

9        If the sum of the digits are divisible by 9, then the number is divisible by 9

 

4        If the last two digits of the number are divisible by 4 or the last two digits are zeros, then the number is divisible by 4.

 

6    If the number is divisible by 2 AND 3.
