Seventh grade Team Color is Purple
The teachers and staff of seventh grade wish to welcome all of our new students and their families to an exciting and busy school year. If you have questions or concerns please call or e-mail us at the school. Please be sure to read and sign the information that was sent home at the beginning of school. This needs to be returned to the advisory teacher as soon as possible.
LITERATURE-This is an exciting year for literature class. We have brand new textbooks that are specifically geared to the Illinois State Standards. In order to preserve these books, all students are to have their books covered by September. The first unit is a series reading focusing on fiction and nonfiction.
COMP-We are studying nouns and pronouns in class. On Monday we will start the first unit of vocabulary. We will learn five new words each week and have a quiz for every ten (every two weeks). Each quiz consists of the parts of speech, definitions, writing sentences, and synonyms/antonyms. Look for the vocabulary journals to be coming home! A letter was sent home with information regarding the comp webpage. Don't forget to check the website often for updates. I'm looking forward to a great year :)
MATH - We will continue working with decimals by estimating/solving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems. Be prepared for a short quiz on your vocabulary and comparing/ordering decimals. Make sure you are practicing your multiplication facts.
PRE-ALGEBRA - We will continue working with decimals by estimating/solving a variety of problems. We will also learn how to change large and small numbers into scientific notation as well as learn the divisibility rules and prime factorization. Make sure you know your basic facts for all four operations. Ex. 7 + 9 = 16. This will make class a lot easier!!
SCIENCE- We are working on the scientific method. This unit includes several labs. Our test will be in about three weeks.
WORLD GEOGRAPHY - Next week students will be building their "Geographer's Toolboxes". We will explore the 5 fundamental themes of geography, understand the 4 hemispheres of the world (also the continents and oceans within them), and analyze the elements of both maps and globes. There will be a short quiz at the end of the week covering this information. Students will present their first current event to the class on Thur/Fri. A detailed explanation of the current event assignment was given to and reviewed with students this week.
Eighth Grade- Team Color is Red
Welcome back to 8th grade! At this point, your child should have returned four forms to school; PPMS Handbook Acknowledgement, PPMS Computer Acceptable Use form (yellow), 8th grade Classroom Management Acknowledgement, and Science Safety Acknowledgement. If you have not seen these forms, please ask your child about getting them to sign.
Our theme this year is Reaching for Your Dreams. Team 8's dream for this class is that each 8th grader will experience making the honor roll this year. We are here to help your student reach or continue to reach this goal. It won't be an easy dream to reach, but we are ready to work hard to achieve it!
LITERATURE- Students are working on "A Retrieved Reformation" packet this week. There will be an author quiz over O. Henry, a homework quiz over the packet, and a spelling test over vocabulary words this week. Students write a 25-line journal each day during Literature except Monday. Please ask your son or daughter if they are keeping up with their journals.
