Fifth Grade-Team Color is Blue Comp.- Flash cards are due Monday for those who did not receive an A or B on the Unit 2 vocabulary test. Tests were passed back this week. We will continue the lessons on clauses. Also, we will begin our pen pal project by sending our first letter to a military member stationed overseas. The names are provided by Operation Military Pride, operationmilitaryprIde.org. If you know of anyone stationed overseas who would like to receive a letter, please send me their address. Right now I have enough names to send two letters to each military member. I am asking each student to bring a stamp or send $0.44 to purchase a stamp for the letter. I will provide the envelopes. This is a wonderful project and I know the men and women serving in the military truly appreciate the letters
Science - Regrettably, Friday is my last day. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with your children. I know that I will see them again on the days that I sub. But good news! Mrs. Eddington will return on Monday. The Pangea Project wrapped up this week. If your child was sick during the project they may have a little more time completing the project. I do think most should be done. Mrs. Eddington will take care of any late projects. I believe that a review of the Pangea Project, layers of the Earth, plate tectonics, volcanoes and earthquakes will follow with a test at the end. Thanks for your support!!!! Mr. McGrath
Math- We just had our first big test this week. Parents expect graded tests to be returned on Tuesday and Wednesday. We will be reviewing problem solving, multiplication, and long division next week.
Lit-We will start a unit of study on parts of a book. We will have a test over this material on October 15 (A) and 16 (B). Check with your student to see how their outside reading project is progressing. The project is due on October 22 (A) and October 23 (B). Book orders were sent home this week. Please note that in the November book order, All the Lovely Bad Ones, is available for $4.00. This book is the October selection for the fifth/sixth grade Book Club.
History-We will begin Chapter 2, Native Americans. This chapter discusses the individual cultures of Native Americans in North America. FIELD TRIP-Remember that our field trip to Dickson Mounds is October 8. Don’t forget to bring a lunch and drink, money for treats and the gift shop, and to dress for the weather!
THANK YOU TO MR. MCGRATH FOR BEING PART OF THE FIFTH GRADE TEAM! WELCOME BACK TO MRS. EDDINGTON!
Sixth Grade-Team Color is Green HISTORY –We have spent this week working in groups creating our cultures. Students have made decisions about where and when their cultures are located. They made decisions about government, religion, language, economy, and technology in their cultures. Next week, we will be burying artifacts and digging up other cultures. What a great way to learn about archaeology and how people live together.
MATH-Students will be working with Decimals this upcoming week! Comparing, ordering, writing, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing (Students just love long division). I will be out of the school all week on personal business and will check my email daily after Tuesday.
