5th GRADE MUSIC: Please note Date change: Our musical “Pirates” will be performed on Oct. 21 at 2:30 in the PPMS commons. Parents are encouraged to attend. Costumes should be brought to school by Wednesday, Sept. 30. If you have any questions about costumes, please contact Ms. Dufour.
ATTENTION 5TH GRADE STUDENTS AND PARENTS: If your child is interested in joining the band, we will have an informational meeting on Tuesday, October 20, at 6:00 in the Middle School band room. Mrs. Martin will be explaining how the band program works and what your child needs to do in order to join. There will be a representative from Boyd Music in Jacksonville here to explain their rental policy. They will have instruments, and the book that the students will be using, here at the meeting. You may also bring in any used instrument that you would like them to look over or get ready for your child to use. Please make every effort to attend the meeting if your child is going to be in band. I will plan to have a lesson schedule to the students during the week of October 19.
“Shine your Smile Day” is coming!
Pleasant Plains School is hosting Smile Programs…the mobile dentist on 11/19/09.
We have invited the Smile Programs to bring their on-site preventive dental care services to our school because we know how important good oral health is to our children’s overall general health.
“We know that tooth decay is the most common chronic and infectious disease among children,” explained Margo Woll, D.D.S. and Marcy Borofsky, D.D.S., co-founders of Smile Programs…the mobile dentists. “We also know poor oral health causes other problems in children, such as diminished growth in toddlers, poor nutrition due to difficulty eating and an increase in bacteria in the blood and respiratory systems.”
A publication from the Centers for Disease Control states: “Children receiving dental sealants in school-based programs have 60% fewer new decayed pit and fissure surfaces in back teeth for up to 2-5 years after a single application. Among children, 90% of decay is in the pit and fissures.”
The Smile Program’s team will set up a mini-dental office in our building and can provide preventive services for all children who return completed forms.
The Smile Program can provide these services to families who need financial assistance and it has subsidized fees for those who choose to pay for the preventive care.
The Smile Program will complete dental exams and paperwork required by state mandated programs, where required. Signing up your children to see the Smile Programs…the mobile dentists team is an easy way to get necessary preventive dental care. If you want your child to see the dentist on “Shine Your Smile Day,” just fill out a permission slip and return it to your school.
