Scholarships This list of scholarships is not a comprehensive list. As additional scholarships become available, I will post the new information. It is the student's responsibility to listen to announcements and check in regularly with guidance to obtain updated information. Individual colleges and universities have many scholarships that a student may apply for following acceptance to the institution. It is the student's responsibility to talk with the university or college about their scholarship offerings. SIKISH LLP SCHOLARSHIP – for students who are contemplating a career in accounting. $500 renewable scholarship for a graduating high school senior; application in guidance office with January 28, 2009 deadline. STOKES EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – National Security Agency (NSA) offers many scholarship opportunities. Apply at www.NSA.gov/careers. Deadline Nov. 30, 2008. KFC COLONEL’S SCHOLARHIP - Online scholarship application available from Dec. 1, 2008-Feb. 10, 2009 at www.kfcscholars.org. Awards are up to $20,000. TOYOTA COMMUNITY SCHOLARS – various monetary awards; focus on strong community service; each high school can nominate one student; see Mrs. Brandon if interested; deadline is Dec. 1, 2008. ILLINOIS LABORERS’ AND CONTRACTORS JOINT APPRENTICESHIP AND TRAINING PROGRAMS – information available in guidance office or call 1 217-773-9083 or go to www.illaborers.org MCKELVEY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS – awards up to $10,000 per academic year; online applications at www.mckelveyfoundation.org ; deadline is January 25, 2009; must own and operate a genuine business, non-profits are eligible with at least one paid employee; graduate in spring of 2009. ILLINOIS PTA SCHOLARSHIP – LILLIAN E. GLOVER – available to graduating seniors majoring in education; $1,000 first place and $500 second place in each of the Illinois PTA’s 20 districts; must be in upper 25% of graduating class; applications available in guidance office; deadline is December 1, 2008. SAE INTERNATIONAL ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIPS - full details and applications at www.sae.org/students/engschlr.htm ; deadline is Dec. 1, 2008. CHRISTIAN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS - go to www.christianconnector.com for information about various scholarships and deadlines. ELKS MOST VALUABLE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – competition in Elks state and national competition program; various significant awards with the least being $4000; extensive application with judging criteria of scholarship, leadership, and financial need; available in guidance office with a January 9, 2009 deadline. ABBOTT AND FENNER SCHOLARSHIP - available through Abbott and Fenner Business consultants; go to www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships for applications and information. BIGSUN SCHOLARSHIP - $500 award available to student athletes; deadline June 27, 2009; applications and information at www.bigsunathletics.com . BETA SIGMA PSI ALPHA ALUMNI SCHOLARSHP - $1000 award that will be given to a confirmed Lutheran freshman male beginning his college studies at University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign in the fall of 2009; Deadline February 2, 2009; see guidance for applications. ILLINOIS DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS – essay contest for any junior/senior who will honor a leaders who has made an impression on them – a “Lincolnland Legend”; total of 19 winners in the state with the top award being $12,000 scholarship; see guidance for application or go to www.illinoisdollarsforscholars.org; December 1, 2008 deadline.
