Scholarships

This list of scholarships is not a comprehensive list.  As additional scholarships become available, I will post the new information.  It is the student's responsibility to listen to announcements and check in regularly with guidance to obtain updated information.

Individual colleges and universities have many scholarships that a student may apply for following acceptance to the institution.  It is the student's responsibility to talk with the university or college about their scholarship offerings.

MILK PROCESSOR EDUCATION PROGRAM - will award a $7500 scholarship; for applications go to www.bodybymilk.com ; Deadline is March 6, 2009

PLATO AND FLORA S. MCCOURTNEY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS - applicatn must be a resident of Sangamon county, earn a high school diploma, and have a 3.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale. A flexible number of scholarships in the amount of $1000 to $5000 will be awarded by the trustee of the awards, Bank of America. Applications are available in the guidance office with a deadline for application of March 31, 2009.

BEST BUY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - go to www.bestbuy.com/scholarships for information and applications; deadline is February 15, 2009

SPRINGFIELD NOON LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP - award is up to $1000; information and application can be found at www.springfieldnoonlions.com ; deadline for application is April 1, 2009.

OUTSTANDING DIOCESAN CATHOLIC FEMALE HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP - award is $1000; see guidance office for application; deadline is March 10, 2009

QBE REGIONAL INSURANCE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - guidelines and applications can be found at www.generalcasualty.com ; deadline for application is February 17, 2009

ORTHOPAEDIC CENTER OF ILLINOIS SCHOLARSHIPS - applications and information for the OCI Foundation Scholarship and the "Comeback Player of the Year" scholarship can be found at www.ocif.net ; deadline to apply for either scholarship is March 15, 2009. Applicant must be majoring in a health-care related field.

SPRINGFIELD AREA HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP - information and applications can be found at www.springeldareaba.com ; award is $1000; deadline March 31, 2009

SANGAMON COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS - numerous scholarships are available; see guidance for listing; all applications are due by March 16; 2009

GEORGE MANGIARACINA MEMORIAL SCHOLARHIP – three $500 scholarships will be awarded; must be planning on attending an Illinois college; essay required; must be in upper 50% of graduating class; Deadline is April 15; application available in guidance office.

2009 PSI U SCHOLARSHIP GRANT PROGRAM -  applications can be found at www.illinipsiu.com ; must be a male attending U of Illinois in Urbana fall of 2009; looking for freshmen with high moral, intellectual and social excellence; application for scholarship does not obligate you to the fraternity; total of $2,250 in awards will be given to numerous students; application due by September 14, 2009.

PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP – SIGMA NU FRATERNITY AT U OF ILLINOIS-URBANA/CHAMPAIGN – for any high senior male who will be entering UIUC as a freshman in the fall of 2009; 3.0 or above GPA;$2500 one time scholarship; applying in no way obligates you to Sigma Nu Fraternity; application on line at www.SigmaNuIllinois.com ; Deadline is May 1, 2009.

MARINE CORPS SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION, INC. – must be son/daughter of an current or former U.S. Marine or U.S. Navy Corpsman attached to a Marine unit; deadline March 1, 2009; see guidance office for application.

LINCOLNLAND ILLINI SCHOLARSHIP – several $1000 tuition awards will be given to Sangamon County High School seniors entering the U of Illinois Urbana/Champaign in the fall of 2009; application and essay required; deadline is May 6, 2009; application in guidance office.

RICH BRAUER GENERAL ASSEMBLY SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 100TH DISTRICT  -  application in guidance office with an April 17 deadline.

LARRY BOMKE GENERAL ASSEMBLY SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 50TH DISTRICT -  application in guidance office with an April 1 deadline.

JOHN FARQUHAR HONORARY VOCAL MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP – sponsored by Studio 8 this is a $500 award for a student who is studying vocal music at a four year college or university; application in guidance office with a deadline of May 1, 2009.

JANE BROWNBACK HONORARY THEATER CRAFT SCHOLARSHIP  - sponsored by Studio 8 this is a $500 award for a student who is studying theatrical study at a four year college or university; application in guidance office with a deadline of May 1, 2009.

TOWNSHIP OFFICIALS OF ILLINOIS SCHOLARSHIPS – awards of seven $2000 scholarships; 500 word essay required; application in guidance office with a March 1, 2009 deadline.
