Text Box: Reading is Fundamental Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) is our nation’s largest literacy organization. The Springfield Area Reading Is Fundamental serves thirty-nine participating schools including Farmingdale and Pleasant Plains Middle School. Each third, fourth, and fifth grade student will receive three paperback books of their own choosing to promote leisure reading and a love for books. These books are free to the children. The program is sponsored by the National Reading Is Fundamental Organization, community businesses, clubs, organizations, and the participating schools through their PTA’s, PTC’s and PTO’s. The books are distributed in November, February, and May through the library.
